The Holistic project
Is a consortium made of 3 municipalities: Dundalk (Ireland), Modling (Austria) and Neuchatel (Switzerland). They strive to:
- Take efficient energy saving measures
- Increase their ratio of sustainable energy consumption
- Increase their local sustainable energy production
- Create wealth and local jobs
The network of partners is completed by so called “observants”: Aachen (Germany), Ministry of the environment (Italy), Newry and Mourne district council (Northern Irland).
In Neuchatel, within a 1.5 km2 area, the objective is to save 22 GWh of non-renewable energy per year. This is the equivalent of the total energy consumption of 700 housholds:
- Retrofit old buildings and build new efficient ones
- Produce electricity through sustainable energies
- Optimize energy management for both buildings and distance heating networks
The Mail/Maladiere/Station area is made of a number of non energy efficient buildings such as the municipal swimming pool, university buldings, business, shops and residential buildings. The area represents over 20% of the built area of the city and is home to 3200 inhabitants.
Holistic is one of the 18 projects gathered within the CONCERTO EC program.
