Individual contribution
The University of Neuchâtel's effort in favor of sustainable development goes far beyond this retrofit. Students and employees can contribute by consulting the Sustainable development section of the university's website.
Historical University building
The building that is home to the Alma Mater and the Faculty of Law dates back to the 19th century. The challenge consisted in making it more efficient in terms of energy, without damaging its architectural heritage.
Measures
- replacement of all the windows
- insulation of the roof
- replacement of light sources
- installation of controlled ventilation and heat exchangers
- installation of thermostatic valves
Aerial thermography

The aerial thermography taken before the intervention shows that the central section of the roof has a high thermic efficiency. But a lack of insulation can be perceived on the edge of the roof, where the skylight windows are situated.
Milestones
Work on the building was completed in Autumn 2009
